The minds behind the CW show The Vampire Diaries want television viewers to "catch VD" -- not an actual venereal disease, but their show abbreviated as VD.

The billboards were placed in at least two iconic, high-traffic areas, the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, and New York City's Times Square. The new slogan is part of a campaign to promote the show's mid-season return last week.

"VD simply stands for Vampire Diaries," a CW spokesperson said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, "and anyone who thinks otherwise should probably get themselves checked out."
