Gay rights groups are taking issue with a sign declaring "Poofters Welcome Here" on display outside a U.K. hotel, saying the owner is "extremely tasteless."
Penny Farthing Hotel owner Make Saqui says he wrote the message on the sign in response to a recent case involving B&B owners who refuses to rent a room to a gay couple.
Gay rights group OutRage! says the sign is "tasteless" and urged police to speak with Saqui. According to The Australian, several local Hampshire politicians agree the sign is in poor taste, while some residents have come to Saqui's defense, saying people need to "lighten up."
Saqui says he thinks the response to the sign is "political correctness gone mad."
"The latest message is not homophobic, we welcome gays, lesbians or whoever," he said.
