In 1992, Daniel Duty was appointed by Target's CEO as a cosponsor of the company's LGBT business council. Now, amid the public and media backlash the company has been under for donating money to a group supporting antigay Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, Duty talks about what it's like to be gay and work for Target.
"I couldn't imagine working anywhere else as a gay person," he says. "I've had a fantastic career here for the last 10 years. I started many, many pay grades below where I am today. Target has been nothing but supportive of me and my career."
Daly says he's one of the first people Target turned to when news broke of the company's donation to Emmer. He said one of his primary concerns in that moment was making sure LGBT employees still felt confident in the company.
