Exodus Defends Antigay iPhone App
There are now more than 110,000 signatures on a petition condemning an iPhone app by antigay group Exodus International, but leaders of the organization say they are not trying to "cure" people of being gay or promote "ex-gay" programs.
The petition calls for Apple, the makers of the iPhone, to pull the free app from its iTunes store. Truth Wins Out executive director Wayne Besen said in a statement Friday that the group would protest in front of Apple headquarters if the app is not pulled.
However, Jeff Buchanan, Exodus's senior director of church equipping and student ministries, told The Christian Post Monday that he and his organization should be equally and fairly represented.
He said calling the app a "gay cure" or "ex gay" app serves "as propaganda in order to stigmatize and really label the application in a false way and provoking a response such as you are seeing with the application."
According to The Christian Post, the app was rated 4+, making it open to users of all ages.
