A hearing will convene in June to determine whether retired judge Vaughn Walker, who ruled in favor of marriage equality last year in a case challenging California's Proposition 8, was fit to hear the case, given that he is gay.

Walker, who retired earlier this year, disclosed that he has been in a relationship with his partner for 10 years. Shortly after the news broke, supporters of Proposition 8, seeking to ban gay marriage in California, challenged his decision, saying that he was biased.

Chief U.S. district judge James Ware announced that the motion challenging Walker's objectivity will be fast-tracked and heard on June 13.

According to the Associated Press, the motion to overturn Walker's ruling is unlikely to succeed.
