The Chicago Bulls' Joakim Noah has apologized for an antigay slur he yelled at a fan during a game Sunday night.
The New York Daily News reports on the incident, which occurred with 6:26 left in the opening quarter, when Noah went to the bench after he picked up his second foul. The incident was captured on television by TNT.
"The fan said something to me that I thought was disrespectful, and I got caught up in the moment, and I responded," said Noah, according to the Daily News. "I said some things that I shouldn't have said. ... I apologize."
The NBA had no immediate comment, but Noah faces a likely fine for the slur. Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant was fined $100,000 using an antigay slur against referee Bennie Adams last month, resulting in an outcry from gay rights groups.
