A man has been arrested in San Francisco after allegedly attacking a transgender man.
SFPD spokesman Carlos Manfredi said the attack was reported Monday at 9:46 p.m. in the city's Mission District. A 43-year-old transgender man was walking along Valencia Street when he was approached by a man who made several verbal threats before striking the victim with a cooler he'd been carrying.
When the suspect pulled out a pocket knife, the victim sprayed him in the face with Mace and managed to escape.
Officers arrived at the scene and took the suspect, identified as Ricky Hodge, 38, into custody on suspicion of aggravated assault, making terrorist threats, and hate crime enhancements.
The victim, 43, who suffered a bump on the forehead, was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and then released.
