Monetary goodwill for New York governor Andrew Cuomo continues to pour in from LGBT donors nationwide, TheNew York Times reports. On Friday, Michael S. Smith and James Costos, a gay couple in Los Angeles who have already "bundled" more than $500,000 in donations for President Obama's reelection campaign, will hold a Hollywood fund-raiser for Cuomo, seen by many as a potential 2016 presidential candidate, whose campaign war chest is already formidable. Smith is the current White House decorator; his partner is a vice-president at HBO. Chad Griffin, president of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, is a cohost at the $1,000-and-up L.A. event.
"Historically, we've seen that gays can be very organized both in terms of delivering volunteers and delivering money to campaigns, and right now, people are very excited about Andrew Cuomo," said outgoing president of Equality Matters Richard Socarides. "He has delivered for us, and I'm sure that people will be willing to deliver for him in any way he asks."
