Austrian City Has No Love For Gay Crosswalk Signals
The streets of Austria's third-largest city are becoming less gay.
Officials in the Austrian city of Linz have decided to forgo the continuing use of gay-friendly crosswalk signals on its city streets.
According to BBC News, the signals -- which featured same-sex characters lovingly holding hands -- were first introduced to Linz after they were implemented in Austria's capital city of Vienna in May of this year.
The crosswalk signals were used to help celebrate the annual Eurovision Song Contest, which Vienna hosted.
"Traffic lights are for traffic and should not be misused to impart advice on how to live your life," said city official Markus Hein of the conservative, right-wing Freedom Party in a report from The Local, an Austrian news website.
The German city of Munich added same-sex crosswalk signals in June to celebrate Pride in July, but it was a temporary display. Hamburg hopes to follow suit next year.
