Paquita Apologizes, to Sing at Gay Disco

Paquita la del Barrio X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio now says she’s sorry for her comments against adoption by gays and that she’ll perform at a gay disco on Tuesday to apologize some more, the Los Angeles Times’s Daniel Hernandez reports. The singer stirred up controversy on both sides of the border last week when she told a reporter that she would rather see a child die in the streets than be adopted by a gay couple.

In the week since making that comment, Paquita has said that her remarks were a result of her “poor education” and that a majority of her friends are gay. “I don’t have anything against anyone,” she added.

Tuesday’s performance will be held at a gay disco called Spartacus in the Mexico City suburb of Ciudad Nezahualocoyotl. The club is owned by a longtime friend of Paquita’s.

As the Times’s Hernandez points out, “As outrageous as her comments might have been for many fans, Paquita’s disapproval of gay couples adopting children is not that far out of the mainstream in Mexico.” A recent poll found that 71% of respondents were opposed a new law allowing same-sex marriages in Mexico City. Only 10% approved.

Watch a video of Paquita’s initial remarks regarding adoption below.

Feel the repurcussions no, she will still be as popular as ever! if not better. Why is it that before she said what she did about gays adopting children everyone adored her for bashing men on stage in her music, and if i'm not mistaken it was said that she would sing at parties for drug cartels nobody judged her then so why now?

her opinion? yes, of course it is. she said it! but here's the kicker. that someone like her, with as much popularity and possible influence, that she would say such fact-less based comments like she did. opinion or not. she has a higher social responsigility, like it or not. Oh sure, it's her opinion but it doesn't wash her of any accountability. When you have people who are to one extreme murdered and bashed for being gay, you better believe we make a big deal over the issue when it comes up! To think, with the enourmous gay fan base that she has, that she would have the intelligence to see beyond the centuries old religious and social barriers that are BARELY allowing for the progress that we are maiking (ie. same sex marriage in Mex City). But no. She goes on says such a horrible thing as that: "i'd rather see a child DIE than be adopted by gay parents". I hope she feels the financial repercussions! boycot her!

I'm always willing to cut the ignorant some slack, even if there's a business/financial interest. It seems probable, to me, that she simply didn't expect to learn that some of her closest friends are gay not to mention, obviously, a portion of her fan base. As a member of a gay chorus whose audience is largely straight and church-going, I know that it's easy to assume inaccurate things about your followers. It's never too late to learn.

As an "out" and proud gay Mexican, I am truly embarassed by her ignorance. As to her lack of education, well, one can always learn. As for her music, Led Zeppelin anyone??

What guy wouldn't go gay after seeing this pig? Notice the inch of gray root coming in on the top photo, the "butch" hair-don't, the warts on her face, the halloween make-up, the failed attempt at being fem with the jewels. God, she is gross. She realizes that she won't attract heterosexual men and her letting out her true feelings (rabidly homophobic) will hurt her money making ability among gay people. Her career is dead. Hope she bought a double gravesite as one can't fit her.

Has this fat pig really had a change of heart, or is it her agent telling her that she has killed her career? Let her wrestle in a guacamole pit with Maggie Gallagher.
