Gibbs Noncommittal On DADT Repeal Timeline

ROBERT GIBBS 2 X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs Wednesday remained noncommittal about when President Barack Obama wants Congress to take any type of legislative action on “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal.

After saying he would have to “get guidance” on whether the president had ruled out inclusion of repeal in this year's Department of Defense authorization bill, Gibbs added he would have to “get an update” on if the president would consider a delayed implementation strategy.

Specifically, The Advocate asked, “Is the president potentially open to a scenario where Congress votes on repeal this year but delays implementation of repeal until the Defense Department study comes out — in other words, deferring to the Department of Defense timeline on implementation of repeal?”

Gibbs responded, “I have not heard that, but I will get an update on whether that's something that we have heard from the Hill or others around town.”

Gibbs also said he did not know if President Obama had spoken to Defense secretary Robert Gates since last Friday, when a letter emerged from the secretary urging House Armed Services Committee chair Ike Skelton not to vote on repeal before the Pentagon completes its study in December.

The Washington Blade began the exchange by asking if the president was “ruling out” inclusion of repeal in the Defense authorization bill.

“Let me get some guidance on that,” Gibbs said. “I don't know the answer to that.”

The full transcript will be available soon.

Sadly, I am becoming more and more discontented with this administration lack of clarity. I remember close after the election Gibbs making an internet video and with bravado stating that he will answer with one word..........."YES" this administration will reverse DADT. Obama has given many statements supporting this reversal, yet he remains obtuse on passing it let alone implementation. Apparently it is some fucking secret. Is he afraid that he will lose political clout if he passes this? With apparently over 70% supporting its repeal, whats the issue? Obama is pussyfooting around on many of his campaign promises that he may lose his base for sure. I could never vote for 'most' republican candidates, but now sure wish Hillary was the president.

This story shows we need to keep up the pressure. Of course we can get DADT repeal into the defence Authorization bill with a delayed implementation until the pentagon study is complete in December. The president needs to crap or get off the pot...are we or are we not a priority of our fierce advocate. Call the White House and tell them you want answers and support not silence or lies. 202 456 1414 Do it today

Ok, why do we have a picture of glib Gibb, every time we are talking about DADT. We should put Obama's face, Gibbs is just the person with the worst job in the Cabinet, feigning commitment for non-commitment until the midterm elections. What the hell is he supposed to say, there is nothing to say other than it isn't the Presidents priority and frankly the President doesn't give a substantial damn.
