Former Miramax chiefs Bob and Harvey Weinstein have acquired the trans drama Transamerica for their new Weinstein Co., reports Variety. The film, which recently premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, features Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman as a male-to-female transgender on a road trip to find her street hustler son. "Felicity Huffman gives an amazing performance, and we are excited about distributing Duncan Tucker's wonderfully funny, intelligent, and beautifully crafted film," said Harvey Weinstein. No word yet regarding U.S. release dates.
