Portia de Rossi tells Vogue magazine that
working on Ally McBeal with Calista Flockhart
and other thin actresses sent her into a dangerous
weight-loss spiral. Saying that she had "literally wanted to
disappear," de Rossi says, "I've often wondered if I wasn't
on that show if [her weight loss] may not have
happened. I didn't really know at that point what it
was like to be a celebrity, and the only people I knew
at the time who had a similar experience were these women
who I worked with. They became my role models." Encouraged
by girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres, de Rossi decided to
come forward and discuss the issue openly,
adding, "I'm not proud of this struggle." (The
