As part of its continuing Southern Stories program and Summer Concert Tour, GLAAD recently debuted a short film called GLAAD Presents: State of Change -- South Carolina that showcases the continuing changes LGBT people are experiencing in the most traditionally conservative region of the country.
The 18-minute mini-documentary, which premiered Monday in Charleston and Columbia, S.C., was directed and produced by Claire Pires, video and news strategist for GLAAD. This is the first in a series of six films that will showcase the lives and legal struggles of LGBT populations across the southern states, including Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia.
Launched last fall, the Southern Stories campaign seeks to raise awareness of the strides LGBT Southerners have made while still noting the many legal and cultural barriers that prevent them from living as they truly want to live.
