FDA approves more generic anti-HIV drugs
The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday granted tentative approval to 150-milligram and 300-milligram generic versions of the brand-name anti-HIV drug Epivir (3TC). The generic medication, made by India-based Aurobindo Pharma, will be available for purchase and distribution in developing countries through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. The generic pills will not be available in the United States or other Western countries. The drug approved Wednesday is the second generic version of Epivir approved by the FDA since May for PEPFAR use.
