Charles Busch and Malcolm Gets to star in sold-out benefit reading of Bell, Book & Candle
Playbill.com reports that a Drama Dept. benefit reading of the John Van Druten comedy Bell, Book & Candle starring Charles Busch and Malcolm Gets has already sold out its March 14 performance. The reading will also feature Dody Goodman, Jonathan Freeman, and Howard McGillin. The 1950 play, about witches in Greenwich Village, is seen by many as a veiled metaphor for the discreetly led lives of gays and lesbians of the era. Busch, of course, will read the lead role of Gillian, a beautiful witch who casts a love spell on her neighbor (McGillin), only to find herself unexpectedly returning his affections. Drama Dept. is a New York-based collective of actors, directors, designers, writers, and stage managers who work together to create new shows and revive neglected classics.
