Theron, Almodóvar nominated for U.K.'s top film awards (14841)

The Aviator, written by out screenwriter John Logan, has received 14 nominations for the forthcoming Orange British Academy Film Awards, including for Logan's original screenplay and for Cate Blanchett's performance as Katharine Hepburn. Finding Neverland and Vera Drake both received 11 nominations, and House of Flying Daggers had nine.

Pedro Almodovar's Bad Education was nominated for Best Non-English Language Film, while Charlize Theron is up for Best Actress in a Leading Role for playing lesbian serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster, the film for which she won an Oscar last year. Monster was released in the United Kingdom in 2004.

A same-sex love story involving two teenage girls, My Summer of Love, due out in the United States later in 2005, is nominated for Best British Film of the Year, along with Vera Drake, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Shawn of the Dead, and Dead Man's Shoes.
