GayCalifornia.com
acquired for a bargain quarter-million

Hammerberg & Associates Inc. has recently acquired the domain name GayCalifornia.com for the "bargain" price of $250,000, reports a press release from the company. The well-known Denver brokerage owns thousands of domain names, a large number of which cater specifically to LGBT people.

Popular domain names developed by the company include GayRealEstate.com, GayMortgageLoan.com, GayGhettos.com, GayBusinesses.com, and GayLegal.com. According to the press release, GayCalifornia.com joins a list of more than 4,000 domain names.

"GayCalifornia.com is the most extensive database of everything gay in California on the Web," owner Jeffery Hammerberg explains in the press release. "Over 550 California cities have listed detailed information about gay and lesbian services, gay and lesbian events, and provided ideas on what to do, and where to go. Business directories serve just about every industry imaginable."

LGBT neighborhoods are popping up across the country, creating a lucrative market for online entrepreneurs. According to the press release, the current buying power of an estimated 15 million LGBT Americans tops $600 billion. California, with gay meccas San Francisco and Los Angeles, represents a gay and lesbian "mega-market."

"Our mission at GayCalifornia.com is clear," Hammerberg says in the release. "We want to ensure that gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people who reside in California communities, are visiting the Golden State, or simply considering relocation, have instant access to information that can guide them to gay-friendly resources and quality businesses."

The large online database will provide LGBT users with an abundance of information--from travel and entertainment to business and real estate. (The Advocate)
