The state government of South Carolina has called for the removal of an advertisement in London claiming "South Carolina is so gay," reports Newsweek.
The ad was featured prominently throughout London's subway system during its pride festivities and encouraged gay tourists to visit South Carolina for everything from golf to gay beaches.
Along with South Carolina, Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C., are also being advertised as "so gay."
Despite initially approving the advert, politicians governing the South Carolina Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department have asked for it to be pulled and have informed Amro Worldwide they will not be paying.
The tourism department said it is canceling payment of its $5,000 fee for the posters, claiming that the deal was approved by a low-level state worker who did not run the advert by senior officials. (The Advocate)
