Former Miss California Carrie Prejean is suing state pageant officials for libel, slander, and religious discrimination.

Prejean was fired by the Miss California organization for missing scheduled appearances, but the former title holder claims that was not the reason for her firing. Instead, Prejean claims she was fired because of her controversial remarks during the Miss USA pageant, where she said that marriage should only be between heterosexual couples.

"We will make the case that her title was taken from her solely because of her support of traditional marriage," her attorney, Charles LiMandri, said in a statement on Monday.

Prejean filed the suit on Monday against Miss California USA officials Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler, and publicist Roger Neal.
