Christian groups are challenging a recent decision to legalize gay marriage in Mexico City because, they say, it is "unconstitutional."
The Contraternice group of evangelical churches and the College of Catholic Lawyers have asked Mexican attorney general Arturo Chavez Chavez to file suit to repeal the law, passed by the capital city's legislature December 21.
According to Agence France-Presse, the complaint was based on "Christian principles." The groups, however, also argued that the supreme court should rule on specific legal issues, including possible constitutional violations and children's rights because of possible changes to adoption laws.
