A group of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans is coming out against Rep. John Boehner, who said that repealing "don't ask, don't tell" would be a distraction to getting "our economy back on plan and getting American people back to work."

Richard Smith, a veteran and the editor of VetVoice, a publication for the organization VoteVets, said Boeher's words assert that gay service members are not people, nor are they true Americans.

"As best I can tell, either John Boehner doesn't really want Americans to have jobs in a field in which they are qualified to serve, he doesn't think gays are real Americans, or he doesn't think they are people," he wrote.

When President Barack Obama last week announced his plan to repeal the ban on gays serving openly in the military, VoteVets said the decision was "a bold move" that is "desperately needed to enhance our military readiness."
