Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, targeted for murder in 2007 over artwork that depicted Muhammad as a dog, was attacked by a Muslim protester this week for screening a film that shows the prophet in a gay bar.
In a move that sparked a free speech debate in Sweden, officials with the school where Vilks showed the Iranian film said it might not invite him back because of the incident, according to The Christian Science Monitor.
"When Mr. Vilks showed a scene from the film at Uppsala University in Sweden, a protester charged the dais and hit him, breaking his glasses," the Monitor reported. "Police were forced to detain or pepper-spray some unruly members of the crowd as other protesters yelled 'Allahu Akbar' -- 'God is great.'"
Vilks, who sleeps in a booby-trapped house with an ax beside his bed, was the target of a murder plot for which two American women were arrested earlier this year.
