Chaz Bono told reporters he is finally at peace with himself while enjoying brother Elijah Blue's art show in Malibu, Calif., Friday night with girlfriend Jennifer Elia and mother Cher.
Bono said he spent years trying to be somebody he wasn't and felt "miserable" pretending to be a girl.
"When I was in Ceremony [short-lived '90s band] I felt the most pressure to look and behave like someone that truly was not me," he said.
Bono is currently offering advice to other people in the process of transitioning on his official website, ChazBono.net. He writes on the website that the key to happiness is being true to yourself.
"I wasted years worried about what other people would think if I transitioned, and now I wish I had those years back," he writes. "Do what is right for you."
