Palm Springs Votes Unanimously for Marriage Equality
The Palm Springs, Calif., city council Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution to support same-sex marriage.
The 5-0 vote decision, which came after impassioned speeches from members of the community and an urging from Mayor Steve Pougnet, was followed by a round of applause from the crowd.
Palm Springs is known for its large gay population -- it's estimated that 40% of its 40,000 permanent residents are gay -- and boasts three openly gay council members out of five. They are Mayor Pougnet, Rick Hutcheson, and Ginny Foat.
