A group of conservative students at Texas A&M University say a video advocating for safer sex is pornographic.

A one-time seminar on safe sex hosted by the university's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center surprised some, including members of the group, the Texas Aggie Conservatives. Student Justin Pulliam told KHOU News that the content was "completely inappropriate" because it was paid for by student activity fees.

"We had no idea there would be pornographic videos and new sex acts," Pulliam said.

Anne Reber, Texas A&M Dean of Student Life, said the program will be looked into.

Update: Lowell Kane, the program coordinator and founding staff member of the center told The Advocate Tuesday that the program was part of National GLBT Health Awareness Week, an event that the GLBT Resource Center has participated in annually since it was established on campus in 2007.

In addition to offering brochures and information about making healthy, safe choices for students of all sexual orientations, Kane said the center also hosted a program about suicide to address the loss of LGBT students across the country to antigay bullying. One program, in particular, stuck out to some: a program about safe sex led by a counselor certified by the American Association of Sexual Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.

"She has come to this campus before to speak," Kane said of the speaker. "It's open but not mandatory, and the focus is universal sexual responsibility for all students, so that if people do choose to engage, they will have the knowledge to do so safely."
