U.S. figure skating champion turned reality star Johnny Weir has been named the grand marshal of the 2011 L.A. Gay Pride Parade, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Weir, an out two-time Olympian, will trade in his skates for the grand marshal crown when he leads the parade along West Hollywood's Santa Monica Boulevard June 12.
"Johnny lives a life with a defined purpose, is dedicated to helping young people and is not afraid to be himself, sometimes not always an easy thing for a world-class athlete," said Rodney Scott, board president for the event's organizer, Christopher Street West.
Previous grand marshals have included Kathy Griffin, Cyndi Lauper, Chelsea Handler, and former NBA player John Amaechi.
