The stars at the GLAAD Media Awards slammed Brunei for preparing to enact laws that would allow gay people to be stoned to death.
Pamela Stewart, chair of GLAAD's board of directors; Ponyboi filmmaker River Gallo; actress Lauren Ash; philanthropist Ariadne Getty; and Queer Eye's Bobby Berk and Jonathan Van Ness agreed that a boycott was a necessary step in protesting this barbaric punishment.
The sultan of Brunei owns the Dorchester Collection, a group of hotels that includes the Hotel Bel Air and the Beverly Hills Hotel. Many celebrities, including George Clooney, have advocating shunning these establishments.
Genderqueer activist Jacob Tobia also weighed in on the issue, advocating for those who want to effect change to reach out and listen to the LGBTQ people of Brunei.
The GLAAD Media Awards were held Thursday at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The evening's main honorees were Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Sean Hayes.
