Lisa Cholodenko's comedy The Kids Are All Right — about a lesbian couple (Annette Bening and Julianne Moore) who have their peaceful domesticity challenged when their children seek out their sperm donor (Mark Ruffalo) — has already garnered some of the strongest reviews of any film this year. The out director and stars Moore, Ruffalo, Josh Hutcherson, and Mia Wasikowska talk to The Advocate about the film's potential to affect the gay marriage debate, playing gay characters, and the advantages of working with a lesbian filmmaker.

    Comment:

Sadly the theme of the movie is that all a lesbian needs is sex with a man to become "normal," and every kid needs a father. This will set us back years with the straight audience who vote on our civil rights by unconstitutional ballot initiatives.
