Uganda 'Phobe to Attend Prayer Breakfast

Bahati x390 (Fair Use) I Advocate.com

David Bahati, the author of Uganda’s so-called “kill the gays” bill, which proposes the death penalty for gay people, has announced that he will attend the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on February 4. President Obama is also expected to attend the event.

The annual prayer breakfast is organized by the Family, a conservative Christian organization that counts several high-ranking politicians among its members and whose teachings are said to have inspired Bahati’s bill.

Uganda’s Monitor newspaper says that Bahati’s bill has given Uganda its worst publicity in years. In an interview with the paper, Bahati blames Jeff Sharlet, author of the book The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power, for the negative attention. “Sharlet is a liar and is responsible for generating interesting in this bill abroad. He just wants to sell his book.”

Sam says that if Obama blah blah blah then "WE need to seriously switch to the republican side in droves." hahaha! ok, Sam, we'll do that! Thanks! You can go back to Foxnews now, we're good here. Thanks again! Wow! These wing-nuts are really trying to accomplish something but I'm seeing that it's actually counterproductive for them, and often provides an educational opportunity whenever one of their nonsensical posts elicits reality-based responses from real gays, which then convincingly show how dumb and self-serving the troll's idea was in the first place. These undercover "culture warriors" can be annoying pests when they're buzzing around in large numbers, but our community would have to be awfully stupid for those kind of tricks to actually accomplish anything of real value like votes. Then too, their dumb-ass ideas and transparent ploys can be entertaining to spot, foil, and turn back at them! At least swatting flies gives you something to do when nothing else is happening.

Let's see what O says at the Breakfast. If he is silent on the subject or if he says Tolerance should extend to these Haters too then we need to seriously switch to the Republican side, and I mean in droves. At least then we're more sure of being able to carry guns to defend ourselves on our streets.

Since Uganda deeply resents "interference" from outside countries, I guess we shouldn't give them anymore money should we? And since these GOP politicians travelled to Uganda while in OUR employ and at TAXPAYER expense, but then went about spreading THEIR religious views using the prestige of the United States of America, I guess they should repay the taxpayers. Where are those tea baggin' idiots now? And since "The Family" has been dodging taxes for decades by claiming the property they own as a church, they should be audited by the IRS and have to pay back taxes & penalties. And since Mark Sanford, the Republican governor of South Carolina, is an adulterer we should have signs with "THOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY" on them and his face. There's also something about "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God" & THOU SHALL NOT KILL." And there are lots more GOP sh*ts we can highlight. Let's make it about THEM and not us. : )

LOL Bruce. I've been here simultaneously with GayElephant, and there are other articles in which he has labeled me a "liberal drone" just as he has of damn near everyone. I'm not new to the scene buddy, but I'm glad you've noticed me ;-) Yes I really do live in SF, born and bread. I live in the Inner Sunset not too far from Twin Peaks. As far as holding Republican politicians accountable? I indeed do. Didn't I just say I'm going to be PROTESTING THIS EVENT!? I simply expect more from a president who campaigned on promises made to our cause and who had no qualms with taking money from us. Capiche?

Are you an Obama hater, Bryan? You are in full attack mode criticizing Obama because he MIGHT be at the same prayer breakfast as the "kill the gays" maniac, but are strangely silent about the republican politicians, such as Grassley, who are "the Family" and are directly responsible for inviting this maniac in the first place. Where's your outrage against them Bryan? (or whatever your name is. BTW listing queer S.F. for hometown was a nice touch, gives "cred" to the cover). You, Bryan, are a troll, an agent provocateur like that GayElephant who stomped-off into cyber-oblivion just about the same time that you appeared on scene. You probably know him; there can't be that many wing-nut groups that would waste time trying to influence the bloggers here. So tell the pachyderm I said "hello" and that he should stop by now and then to entertain us with more of his idiotic views, and to insult his many "liberal drone" penpals who squander away their lives blogging on this rag's website.

What a big joke in the beginning of the year 2010. The killer is invited for prayer? It's like inviting Osama bin Laden to a prayer meeting. This is embarassing.

I just sent an e-mail to the White House informing our President that I will be outside of this Prayer Breakfast protesting its existence AND that I'll have anti-Obama plackards implying that he has blood on his hands should he by chance be attending this Prayer Breakfast as well. I strongly suggest that as many of you as possible follow suit. E-mail the White House, inform them of your disgust, that what "The Family" and all their antics, including the Uganda "Kill the Gays Bill", stand for are diametrically opposed to American values, and should he tacitly support this garbage of a summit, he will pay for it in HORRIBLE publicity. Spread the word! Let's e-mail bomb the White House!
