Montana Pol: Revoke Antigay Law

A Republican lawmaker is working to remove a law from the books that criminalizes homosexual acts in Montana.

State senator John Brueggeman's bill would be considered by the 2011 legislature, according to the Associated Press. The move comes after the Montana Republican Party announced its official platform, which supports the law, despite it being ruled unconstitutional in 1997 by the state supreme court. The 2003 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Lawrence v. Texas struck down similar laws across the country.

Brueggeman said the state should not have such a law, even if it cannot be enforced.
