Craig Zadan and
Neil Meron, the duo behind the Oscar-winning flick
Chicago and the current musical sensation
Hairspray, have announced their plans to create
a new televised version of Peter Pan, reports
Playbill.com.
Variety had recently reported on rumors of a
Peter Pan for the small screen. In an
interview with NY1's On Stage, Zadan confirmed
the gossip. "Our next musical that we're going to do is for
TV. We're going to do Peter Pan," he said. "No
one's ever made a movie musical of the Mary Martin Peter
Pan."
Although no
actors have been signed to the project, Zadan assured
audiences that a woman would take the title role. "We would
never break the tradition of casting a woman in it,"
he said. "It was written for Mary Martin, and it was
conceived for a woman, and we wouldn't think of
changing that."
Meron confirmed
that Zadan and he are planning to produce their first
original Broadway stage musical. The name and location have
not yet been announced. (The Advocate)
