Jessica and Dolly Get Intimate

Have Jessica Simpson and Dolly Parton found their own "island in the stream"? The lyrics to their new duet make the buxom blonds sounds suspiciously close. Now you tell us what you think!
An Advocate.com exclusive posted September 5, 2008
 Jessica and Dolly Get Intimate

“Do you know how beautiful you are here in the afterglow... Do you know how much it means to me / The way you make me feel / Like I could soar the heavens / Gathering shooting stars / Place them in a bouquet / In a rainbow-studded jar.” Sounds like the stuff sappy love songs of the ’80s were made of. Trouble is, it’s 2008 -- and the song is a duet between Jessica Simpson and...Dolly Parton?

The lyrics to the song were leaked online in anticipation of Simpson’s debut country album Do You Know? in stores now. And the blogs immediately went nuts, some suggesting the two buxom blonds had found their own "island in the stream," and ladies’ sites like AfterEllen.com and LesbiaNation.com are wondering when Parton suddenly became so open to addressing those rumors.

The duet is perhaps an even bigger surprise considering the Kennedy Center Honors disaster back in 2006 -- when Simpson botched the lyrics to "9 to 5" -- twice -- while paying tribute to Parton. Simpson later told E! News that Parton talked her back from the brink of retirement after that flub.

Guess we know how Simpson likes to show her appreciation.

What do you think? Awkward, or only if you read too much into things? Let us know with your comments.

This is such a stupid issue to even bring up. What are we 12 year old boys here??? Dolly is merely providing background vocals to Jessica's song. It's about musicanship. I'm a gay man and even I get so tired of people wanting to find the "gay" in everything. I'm all for a love song between two women. But one that is meant to be just that.

I've always wondered about Dolly but not with this gal. I do know that I like the song and will probably be a super hit among lesbians that are just starting a relationship.

Do you remember John Denver's duet with Placido Domingo? That song, "Perhaps Love" was a smash hit and no one "linked them up" for doing it. This is just rediculous. It is a song for goodness sake.

Yes, you are really reading too much into this. I agree with Gary... Dolly has always been supportive of young talent. Give her the respect she has earned as an artist. Besides, let her personal life be her own. If there is something it is no one's "biznes" but theirs.

Jessica is an over-rated bimbo who is to busty for christian music according to her pimp father. Dolly is the stuff legends are made of .

Give me a break. Because Dolly's backing up Jessica this has an undertone of them being lovers?!? Stop overreaching with type of ridiculous gossip. Dolly has spent her career helping young artists and this is tainting that spirit.

Dolly is one of the greatest hotties of the world. At age 62 she still looks better than a lot of those so-called supermodels. All the more reason that it's way overdue that she showed those 34E's aka "The Best Boobs in the Bizz" to the world, so c'mon Dolly pose nude in the near future and don't wait until y'er 100-th birthday or at least have the pictures that have been taken in the past published!!

Um, yeah... I'm all for Dolly and/or Jessica being gay, but this just screams botch job. Was Dolly even there?
