Chinese
Foundation launches lesbian help hotline

After a help hotline for gay men became a success in China, lesbians will have the same service available, according to ChinaDaily. Starting November 25, the Chiheng Foundation in Shanghai will offer a hotline for women seeking assistance or advice. Ten lesbian volunteers have been recruited and will undergo extensive psychological, legal, and medical training in order to answer calls.

According to the article, Shen Yimu, an officer at the foundation, said that when the gay hotline was launched in May, lesbians called in for help but were unable to get their needs addressed.

"All the volunteers for that hotline are gay men," Shen told China Daily. "They don't know much about the detailed issues that most lesbians are facing. So we decided to set up a hotline especially for lesbians." (The Advocate)
