The first regional productions have been announced for the gay-inclusive drama, which just closed on Broadway.

Mothers and Sons, the Tony Award-nominated drama by Tony-winning gay playwright Terrence McNally, will live on after its brief Broadway run.

The play opened March 24 and closed Sunday at the Golden Theatre following 33 previews and 104 regular performances. Tony and Emmy winner Tyne Daly starred as Katharine Gerard, a mother paying an unexpected visit to her late son's former lover (Frederick Weller), who is raising a child (Grayson Taylor) with his younger husband (Bobby Steggert).

Boston's SpeakEasy Stage Company will produce Mothers and Sons as the final show of its 2014-15 season. Staged by SpeakEasy producing artistic director Paul Daigneault, the acclaimed drama will run May 8 through June 6, 2015, at the Roberts Studio Theatre. Nancy E. Carroll has been cast as Katharine Gerard.

Philadelphia Theatre Company will produce Mothers and Sons as the fifth show of its 2014-15 season. The play will run February 6 through March 8, 2015, at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Tony-nominated for Best Play alongside Harvey Fierstein's Casa Valentina, Mothers and Sons lost the coveted award to All the Way, a historical drama starring Bryan Cranston as Lyndon B. Johnson. Daly, who earned a nomination for Best Actress in a Play, was bested by Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill's Audra McDonald. See a full list of winners and nominees here.
