Jodie Foster, Wanda Sykes, and Tig Notaro Vie to Play Batgirl

Jodie Foster

Conan played with casting a lesbian as Batgirl, and it sounds like a good idea!

In honor of Comic-Con and the upcoming Batgirl movie, a few of our favorite out performers auditioned for the role on a segment on Conan, including Jodie Foster, Wanda Sykes, and Tig Notaro.

In the video, Notaro auditions with her usual deadpan, while Foster arrives with a prop in tow and unsurprisingly commands the role of Barbara Gordon. Sykes gets political and questions why the world needs another superhero movie when the "world is on fire" and the Trump administration is separating parents at the border. Eventually, though, she gets on board with Batgirl.

Meanwhile, Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman turns up for the audition and bemoans the fact that as a man he can't land parts for women.

Hillary Swank, Maria Bamford, and Kristen Schaal also offer up some hilarity in auditioning for the role that will be written by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, according to The Mary Sue. Joss Whedon was originally attached to write and direct but left the project allegedly to make room for more female directors.
