Awesome Mom Has One Small Criticism of Their Trans Kid’s Coming-Out

This story really puts the r in heartwarming.

If you're taking "mom of the year" award nominations, you're going to want to add Cherie Garcia to that list, because she just served the internet a master class on how to respond to your child coming out as trans -- and doing it in the most mom way ever.

In a post on Twitter, Garcia shared a letter she recently received from her son, Crow. The photo shows a letter created mostly from cut-out letters from a magazine, ransom note-style. It read: "Congatulations! [sic] You are now the proud owner of your very own son. Please use he/him pronouns for me now. Thanks Crow."

While Crow certainly gets points for creativity, Garcia did have some, well, constructive feedback for him. "My teenager handed me this envelope and asked that I wait to open it until after he went to his dad's house," Garcia wrote in the caption. "After opening it, I called to let him know that the *only* thing that's wrong with this is the 'r' he accidentally left out of congratulations." Such a mom response.

Garcia went on to make her feelings on the subject very clear. "There is nothing my kids could do to lose my support and unconditional love," she said. "My prayer for each of them is that they live life as their authentic selves, without compromise. My teen is figuring things out and I support him 100%, because God created both of my babies perfectly."

She also added a little hilarious context for the letter. "I walked by his room before he gave it to me & I happened to be on the phone w/ his dad (we're divorced). Dad asked how Crow was doing & I said, 'They're either working on homework or holding someone ransom.' I was relieved that it wasn't the latter when I opened the envelope," she wrote.

This is truly the dream response to coming out. Supportive, loving, and with a bit of humor. No surprise it touched the hearts of folks on Twitter.

gender is fake, take it hostage and write a ransom note

I love the drama of it. My own non binary kiddo nailed a note to their door in the middle of the night and declared that if we must refer to them to refer to them as our spawn I commented on the atrocious handwriting.

Full credit due! It takes time to find all those letters, and I love your reaction! Congatulations to you both!

I love how you pointed out the spelling error. Typical mom thing to do. And your unconditional love is what all parents should have no matter who their kids are.
