Bush proposes
funding increase for HIV housing for women

President Bush's fiscal 2007 budget proposal contains more than $300 million for a program that provides housing for HIV-positive women and their families, an increase over 2006 levels that would allow the program to house an additional 3,500 women, National Public Radio reports. Bush's decision to boost funding, one of the few AIDS programs in the budget proposal to get more money, was driven primarily because the federal Office of Management and Budget has studied the program and rated it as effective, according to NPR.
