Walgreen Co. has
purchased a C&M pharmacy in a Chicago suburb that it
plans to turn into its fourth HIV specialty pharmacy in the
region, the Chicago Sun Times reports. The
pharmacy, located in Glenview, Ill., will also
specialize in the treatment of hepatitis C. Walgreen
also operates an HIV pharmacy in the predominantly gay
"Boystown" section of the city as well as
clinic pharmacies at the Howard Brown Health Center
and the Central DuPage Medical Center. A spokesman for
the company says that Walgreen, which received complaints
for signing on as a sponsor of the Gay Games athletic
competition in the city, has not received complaints
about devoting pharmacies to HIV care. (The
