Walgreen Co. has purchased a C&M pharmacy in a Chicago suburb that it plans to turn into its fourth HIV specialty pharmacy in the region, the Chicago Sun Times reports. The pharmacy, located in Glenview, Ill., will also specialize in the treatment of hepatitis C. Walgreen also operates an HIV pharmacy in the predominantly gay "Boystown" section of the city as well as clinic pharmacies at the Howard Brown Health Center and the Central DuPage Medical Center. A spokesman for the company says that Walgreen, which received complaints for signing on as a sponsor of the Gay Games athletic competition in the city, has not received complaints about devoting pharmacies to HIV care.
