S.F. Shanti to lay off staff members
As part of a two-year restructuring plan to save nearly $1 million in expenditures, the San Francisco HIV/AIDS organization Shanti will lay off nearly a dozen employees, reports the Bay Area Reporter. The restructuring plan also includes one-month salary cuts for executive director Hywel Sims and four other managers, saving $35,000. Most of the job cuts will be in the areas of finance, administration, and development and will not affect client services, Sims said. The layoffs will leave the agency with 46 employees. Shanti has an annual budget of $4.1 million but has seen private donations, which account for 57% of the agency's annual income, fall off during the past year. The agency offers referral services, peer support services, a drop-in center, peer and treatment advocacy, transportation services, and social activities.
