Brother to Brother, Drag Kings on Tour, Eating Out among big winners at Frameline festival
The 28th Frameline festival, also known as the San Francisco International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, wrapped Sunday with a screening of D.E.B.S. and the announcement of the major awards. Rodney Evans's Brother to Brother, about a modern-day African-American artist who finds inspiration from the Harlem Renaissance, won the audience award for Best Feature. The nonfiction film Drag Kings on Tour, directed by Sonia Slutsky, was chosen Best Documentary by audiences, who also picked Mary Guzman's Mind If I Call You Sir? as Best Short. Filmmaker (and Advocate.com columnist) Q. Allan Brocka received $10,000 as the winner of the Levi's First Feature Award for his romantic comedy Eating Out. The $10,000 Stu & Dave's Excellent Documentary Award went to Jim de Seve's Tying the Knot, about the battle against opponents of same-sex marriage.
