After a help
hotline for gay men became a success in China, lesbians will
have the same service available, according to China Daily. Starting November 25, the Chiheng
Foundation in Shanghai will offer a hotline for women
seeking assistance or advice. Ten lesbian volunteers
have been recruited and will undergo extensive
psychological, legal, and medical training in order to
answer calls.
According to the
article, Shen Yimu, an officer at the foundation, said
that when the gay hotline was launched in May, lesbians
called in for help but were unable to get their needs
addressed.
"All the
volunteers for that hotline are gay men," Shen told China
Daily. "They don't know much about the
detailed issues that most lesbians are facing. So we decided
to set up a hotline especially for lesbians." (The
