Activist Donna
Rose was honored Wednesday for her work in advocating for
transgender equality in the workplace and the classroom by
national nonprofit Campus Pride, according to a press
release from the group. Rose received the Voice Action
Award and was the featured guest speaker at the
closing dinner graduation ceremony of Campus Pride's Summer
Leadership Camp in Charlotte, N.C.
Rose delivered
her keynote "Pathways to Equality: Frontiers of LGBT
Advocacy" to 60 LGBT and ally student leaders from
across the United States and Canada.
"Donna
Rose is well-deserving of this honor. She embodies inclusion
and diversity ... and has utilized her voice to
build bridges, ignite change, and create dialogue
inside our movement, which will only serve to make us
stronger," said Shane Windmeyer, executive director
of Campus Pride, in the release. "Donna ensures
all voices are heard -- including our young adult
leaders -- who often tokenized and forgotten."
The Campus Pride
Summer Leadership Camp, the only one of its kind in the
nation, started this past Saturday, July 19, and ends
Thursday, July 24. It blends traditional camp
activities with a curriculum of skill building in
leadership development, social justice, and civic
involvement. Campus Pride's mission is to create a
safer college environment for LGBT students. (The
