Police in Piscataway, N.J., are investigating a possible bias crime claim by residents being harassed by telephone. The residents told police that an unknown person is repeatedly calling their phone number to ask if the number was for a gay escort service, according to MyCentralJersey.com.
Police say the phone calls have been getting progressively more vulgar and sexually explicit.
The homeowner gave police the phone number of the suspected caller, but when authorities called the line, the man who answered refused to give his name. Police are investigating the situation as a possible bias crime because of the homeowner's sexual orientation. Police captain Richard Ivone said the individual could be subject to arrest on bias charges. (The Advocate)
