Scabies can be transmitted through close contact with a man who has scabies or by lying on his infested bed or couch.
Scabies, although very similar to pubic lice, are a different mite that also burrows into the outer layers of the skin. They are much smaller than crabs and burrow underneath the skin to lay their eggs. Often they can be felt in between fingers and toes, in the web portion of the skin. Itchy, irritated skin develops in the infested area with short wavy lines produced by the burrowing action of the scabies mite. Scabies are also transmitted through close contact with a man who has scabies or by lying on his infested bed or couch. Scabies can even be contracted from a toilet seat. Prevention and treatment is the same as for pubic lice.
