A Brazilian actor who previously dubbed Sean Penn's voice into Portuguese has rejected an offer to re-record dialogue for the film Milk. Marco Ribeiro, who dubbed Penn's voice in All the King's Men and 21 Grams , says that the film about martyred gay rights activist Harvey Milk clashes with his religious beliefs.
Ribeiro is a pastor at an Assembly of God church in Rio de Janeiro.
"I did not feel comfortable with the job," Ribeiro said, according to Variety . "My voice is involved with other causes, and for the same reason I have refused to work on certain types of advertising."
Penn won his second Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Milk , directed by Gus Van Sant. The film is currently playing in Brazilian theaters with Portuguese subtitles, but will be dubbed into Portuguese for television.
Ribeiro will be replaced by actor Alexandre Moreno.
The DVD for Milk hit stores on Tuesday in the U.S.
