A Florida church has launched a "No Homo Mayor" campaign against Gainesville mayoral candidate Craig Lowe (pictured), posting an antigay video on its website and urging area churches to get in on the action.
"Here is Gainesville they're getting ready to have a run off election between two candidates, and one of 'em is openly a homo, gay ... uh ... a fag, whatever you want to call him," Dove Church pastor Wayne Sapp says in the video. "Bottom line is, we cannot afford a homo mayor.
"We got one running for mayor of Gainesville, trying to convert Gainesville into Homoville. We can't have it."
The video was originally posted to YouTube but was yanked for violating terms of service. A senior pastor for the church said the video had been endorsed and approved by the Dove World Outreach Center church.
Lowe, a two-term city commissioner, received the most votes in this month's general election among five candidates. Since no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, the top two will compete in an April 13 runoff election.
