A new Field Poll shows that 51% of Californians back marriage equality and that 42% are opposed to allowing same-sex couples to wed, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
That's the same margin of support Field has found in the
state for the past two years, even though in 2008 voters passed Proposition 8, which
bans marriage equality.
Field reps say that support for marriage declines when
alternatives come into play. Support drops to 44% when the option of civil
unions is introduced.
