A transgender woman has been arrested for using the women's restroom in a downtown Houston library, reports Houston's KTRK.
The legality of Majanae Chambers's arrest is in question, however. Earlier this year Houston mayor Annise Parker (pictured) expanded an antidiscrimination policy to allow city employees to use the facilities of their choice on the basis of their gender identity, not their sex.
David Welch of the Houston Area Pastors Council is now calling on Texas attorney general Greg Abbott to resolve the dispute.
Chambers's arrest comes in the wake of a similar arrest last Wednesday, when Houston police booked Nathanial Tyrone Moore for "knowingly entering a restroom of the opposite sex." Moore told his arresting officers that he was in the process of becoming a woman but was still technically a man.
