Five men have been arrested and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in connection with the brutal beating of a gay, South Carolina teen.
Joshua Esskew was beaten on April 9 outside the Spot Convenience store in Rock Hill. Authorities told the Charlotte Observer the FBI has been investigating the assault as a possible hate crime.
Esskew's beating made headlines when surveillance video from the store was released, showing the men brutally attacking the teen in what appeared to be a gang assault.
If convicted, each of the men could face up to 20 years in prison.
